Gifted and Talented (GT)

Gifted and Talented (GT)

Gifted and talented (GT) children and youth are those of high potential or ability whose learning characteristics and educational needs require qualitatively differentiated educational experiences and/or services. Possession of these talents and gifts, or the potential for their development, will be evidenced through an interaction of above average intellectual ability, task commitment and /or motivation, and creative ability.

Identification Process

Gathering a talent pool is the first step in the identification process. Nominations may come from the following sources: staff, parents, peers, self, and community patrons.

We also now have a digital nomination form here: https://forms.gle/QU4cEzXUKvcfhCwS9 that parties can use to nominate students for consideration for the GT Program.

The next step is to notify the parent or guardian and request permission to evaluate and consider the student for program placement. The parent has the right to deny or grant permission. When granted, the parent has the right to be informed of evaluation results. The final step is to use non-discriminatory instruments and collect data to identify students. Students not selected will remain in the talent pool and may be considered later as they progress through the school system.
